Jesse Trevino, Tripa Club Founder, Recognized by Court
DSC_0137[1].JPG
On Tuesday, February 26th, 2013, Mr. Jesse Trevino was recognized by Commissioners' court for his outstanding service, dedication, and commitment to the citizens of Hidalgo County. Mr. Jesse Trevino is the original founder of Hidalgo County’s famous Tripa Club, a gathering of elected officials at a tongue-in-cheek where talk about politics was not allowed. This would help create a "compadrismo," or sense of brotherhood, among community, political and business leaders to establish working community relations by presenting the "Tripero Distinguido" award. Mr. Jesse Trevino was born in Alice, Texas on Christmas Day 1925, and since 1959 has been a lifelong resident of Hidalgo County with his family. Mr. Trevino is married to his wife of 61 years, Mary Lou Beltran Trevino, and they have two children, David and Laura Trevino. At the age of 87 Mr. Trevino still continues his service to our community every day. Congratulations, Mr. Trevino.

Hidalgo County Passes Resolution in Support for Medicaid Expansion

With Texas having the highest rate of uninsured people in the country, at 23 percent, and underinsured in the country; and with 219,213 residents, comprising 28.3 percent of Hidalgo County’s population being uninsured, Hidalgo County Commissioners' Court voted on Tuesday to adopt a resolution urging state and federal leaders to work together and resolve the issue at hand by the expanding Medicaid coverage to all Texas U.S. citizen adults living at or below 138% of the federal poverty level.

Hidalgo County Backs Water Efforts for Rio Grande Regional Water Authority

With droughts, and water shortages, on Tuesday the Hidalgo County Commissioners’ Court voted in support of the efforts of the Rio Grande Regional Water Authority (RGRWA) to request that the United States Section of the International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC) and the United States Department of State pursue Mexico’s formal compliance with the 1944 Treaty to annually set aside water in sufficient amounts, as a priority allocation to the United States and to ensure Mexico’s full compliance with the 1944 Treaty.
