Hidalgo County Commissioners' Court met in session on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 and considered an agenda that included the following highlights: 

COURT HONORS IYSLAH FLORES AND ISABELLA ORTIZ

?Commissoners' Court and Iyslah Flores & Isabella Ortiz

Commissioners' Court approved a resolution honoring pageant hopefuls Iyslah Flores and Isabella Ortiz. The girls, ages 7 and 5respectively, are set to compete in the Universal Royalty Pageant in Austin, Texas on February 16, 2013. The Hidalgo County natives are strangers to competition. Iyslah was crowned as the 62nd Annual Princess Anna during the 2012 Texas Citrus Festival and Isabella is a member of Missy's Modeling Agency; both girls are part of the Valley Cheer Elite cheerleading squad as well. Pct. 3 Commissioner Joe Flores, who is the girls' proud grandfather, praised their efforts and wished them good luck at this weekend's competition. Iyslah addressed the court, thanking them for the recognition and said she hopes she can take home the crown. Iyslah and Isabella were joined by their extended family including Iyslah's mother Ruby Saenz, Isabella's mother Kandra Flores, their grandmother Diana Flores, grandfather Commissioner Joe M. Flores, and aunts Claudia Flores and Luisa Ruiz.

Commissioners' Court and Edinburg High School Varsity Cheerleaders

Hidalgo County Commissioners' Court was proud to honor Edinburg High School Varsity Cheerleaders. The group of juniors and seniors brought home a national championship title after competing in the 2012 National Cheerleaders Association Senior and Junior High School National Championship. The team competed against others from across the country, and brought first place in their division and Best Showmanship. Hidalgo County Judge Ramon Garcia and Commissioner Joseph Palacios pointed out that they themselves were proud graduates of Edinburg High, and felt a sense of great pride on the group's achievement. The team showed their talents and performed a small live routine to the Court members and the audience. Congratulations to the Edinburg High School cheerleaders, their sponsors, families, and community.


COMMISSIONERS' COURT APPOINTS YOLANDA OLIVARES TO TROPICAL TEXAS BOARD

Commissioner’s Court approved a nomination by Commissioner Joe Flores to appoint Yolanda Olivares to the Tropical Texas Behavioral Center Board of Trustees for a 2-year term effective February 12th, 2013.


BOARD MEMBERS APPOINTED TO CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION BOARD

Commissioners' Court appointed board members to the Hidalgo County Civil Service Commission Board. County Judge Ramon Garcia nominated Aurora Zamora, and Commissioner Hector "Tito" Palacios appointed Silvestre Rodriguez.  The Civil Service Commission Board is charged with the responsibility to adopt, publish and enforce rules relating to the selection of County employees and the procedural and substantive rights, advancement, benefits, and working conditions of County employees.


PLEASE NOTE:  Hidalgo County offices will be closed for regular business on Monday, February 18, 2013 in observance of the Presidents Day holiday.  Normal business hours will resume at 8 am on Tuesday, February 19, 2013. 

The next meeting of Commissioners' Court is scheduled for Friday, February 15, 2013 at 1:10 pm.  There will not be a meeting on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, due to court members attending an education conference.
