Scholarships to University of Texas Pan-American
For the 2010-2011 academic year, Hidalgo County offers scholarships for
eligible employees and dependents to the University of Texas-Pan
American (UTPA).
The scholarships are for up to $1,000 per semester or up to $2,000 per academic year of tuition and fees at UTPA.
Deadline to apply for the 2009-2010 academic year scholarships is June 15, 2010!
ELIGIBILITY
- Regular full-time staff of the County of Hidalgo are eligible to compete for this scholarship one year from the date of hire.
- Dependents
of regular full-time staff of the County of Hidalgo who have been
employed for at least one year are also eligible. Dependent is defined
as the "legal spouse or an unmarried dependent son/step son and/or an
unmarried daughter/step daughter, 24 years of age or younger, who
resides with the employee."
- Applicants must first apply for admissions online at www.applytexas.org
and submit transcript and required test scores. You may also contact
the New Student and Visitor Services Office at (956) 381-2999. You must
be admitted to the university before becoming eligible for the
scholarship.
- Applicants must complete the Employee or
Dependent Competitive Tuition Scholarship application and return it to
UTPA by the deadline of June 15, 2010.
- If employee has
previously attended college, he/she must have a 2.5 grade point average
on a 4.0 scale. If dependent has previously attended college, he/she
must have a 3.0 GPA.
- Applicants must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- All
applicants will be judged and scored by the University of Texas
Pan-American Scholarship Office and the ONE highest scoring employee
and ONE highest scoring dependent will be selected for this
scholarship.
- Courses must comply with a specific degree
plan or be directly job related (in case of employee). If no degree
plan is available, a statement of educational purpose must be
completed.

Scholarships to South Texas College
For the 2010-2011 academic year, Hidalgo County offers scholarships for
eligible employees and dependents to South Texas College (STC).
The scholarships are for up to $500 per semester or up to $1,000 per academic year to South Texas College.
Our goals is to make going to college simpler and easier for our employees and dependents, so it that reason why we extended the scholarship for one year to make it more lucrative for future students.
The deadline to apply for the 2010-2011 academic year scholarships is August 1, 2010!
