The Budget Management Division is responsible for the development and monitoring of the County budget. The Department serves Commissioners Court by providing recommendations to facilitate operational efficiency within the various County Departments.

The budget development process begins with revenue projections for the County for the upcoming year. These revenue estimates will determine how many funds are available to provide government services to the community.

Departmental budget requests are considered, and the Budget Department presents recommendations to the Hidalgo County Commissioners Court for approval and adoption.

Responsibilities
The Budget Management Division is responsible for:
  • Providing financial information and guidance to the Commissioners Court and County Judge
  • Providing evaluation research and analysis for any department that requests assistance, including District Courts and County Courts at Law
  • Making readily available up-to-date information to Commissioners’ Court on agendas, meetings, workshops, resolutions, and services
  • Advising other departments on the financial conditions of their respective departments
  • Assisting with special budgetary requests
  • Maintaining the Budget Application Program
  • Reviewing all agenda items that have budgetary implications
