HONORING CENTENARIAN MARIA G. VALLADARES
Commissioners' Court recognized and honored Maria G. Valladares, who celebrated her 100th birthday in August. County Judge Ramon Garcia noted that it is rare to celebrate the life of individuals whose wealth of experience and knowledge of Hidalgo County history is certainly worth recognizing. Valladares' family was greatly honored with the recognition, which proclaimed to recognize Mrs. Valladares on the occasion of her 100th birthday.
HONORING CAPTAIN KEN BAKER
Commissioners' Court approved a proclamation honoring and recognizing Captain Ken Baker as the longest active serving State Game Warden in the State of Texas, serving for 41 years. After graduating from the Texas Game Warden Academy at Texas A&M University in 1971, Baker was assigned to the Edinburg Area in Hidalgo County where he began his Game Warden duties in January of 1972. His many years of services in Hidalgo County were primarily to enforce the State Laws that pertained to its natural resources, boating traffic on the Rio Grande River, and providing assistance to other law enforcement agencies. Baker is currently serving as the Captain for the Rio Grande Valley District of Texas. Several Local and State Law Enforcement Officials were on-hand to speak about Captain Baker and his dedication to the State of Texas.
