The Court approved a 2012 appropriation of funds in the amount of $50,000.00 for the Children's Advocacy Center of Hidalgo County (Estrella's House). Estrella's House was established in the year 2000 in tribute to Estrella Rojas, a victim of child abuse whose life ended tragically in Edinburg, Texas. Through her guidance and inspiration, Estrella's memory is kept alive by helping and treating the children who are victims of abuse. Estrella's House provides a safe haven with a child-friendly, non-institutional environment where young victims are not afraid to tell their story. Re-victimization of child victims is minimized by using a multidisciplinary team approach to child abuse investigations.Commissioners' Court has found it is in the best interest of the County’s residents to support Estrella’s House by providing funds as allowed by Local Government Code Section 381.004.
