Commissioners' Court approved a resolution honoring Edinburg CISD and two ECISD principals for achievements in HEB's 212 Excellence in Education Awards. Edinburg North High School Principal Ramiro Guerra was selected among 4,000 nominations as the statewide recipient of the Secondary School Principal Award, winning him a $10,000 cash award and a $25,000 grant for his school. Edinburg CISD was named a finalist for the Large District category, and Freddy Gonzalez Elementary Principal Arnoldo Benavides was named a Regional Finalist for the Border Region Elementary School Principal Category. School Board President Carmen Gonzalez, Superintendent Dr. Rene Gutierrez, Assistant Superintendents Maria Luisa Guerra and Rebecca Morrison, Area Directors Hector Gonzalez and Dominga Vela, as well as the families of Guerra and Benavides, represented ECISD on this recognition; Linda Tovar, Public Affairs Manager for HEB was also in attendance to express HEB's support of education and to congratulate the winner and finalists. Commissioners' Court expressed their congratulations to the principals and the school district, acknowledging their achievements and continued demonstration of excellence in education. Created in 2002, the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards are designed to honor outstanding public school professionals and to thank them for their dedication and commitment. Through this program, H-E-B seeks to pay tribute to those educators who go the extra mile each and every day to serve their students and their communities and who inspire others to do the same.
